We are an enthusiastic international research team part of the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology, University of Groningen, the Netherlands and associated to the Department of Biomedical Sciences of Cells & Systems, Section Cognitive Neuropsychiatry, UMCG, Groningen.
PhD-students
Francisco is a psychiatrist who takes part in a joint Ph.D. program at the University of Groningen and the National University of Mexico (UNAM). In his research line, we study the neural basis of executive (dys)function and behavioral symptoms in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease, using advanced MRI and EEG methods. We furthermore adapt and validate new neuropsychological tests for both the Netherlands and for Mexico in the 4C Study: Cross-Cultural Cognitive Control. Francisco is furthermore a fellow of Alzheimer Nederland.

Diede is a psychologist and graduated at the University of Groningen. In her PhD project, we investigate the effects of neurofeedback on cognition and assess this training approach as a therapeutic tool.

Rutger is a psychologist and studied Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Groningen. He graduated on the topic inhibition and the frontal parietal network in schizophrenia. In our team he is involved in the neurofeedback study and researches furthermore into mild cognitive impairment in the 4C study: cross-cultural cognitive control. He is interested in neuropsychological testing and in the integration of scientific research and clinical practice, and furthermore works as a teacher at the University of Groningen.

Aljosha Speth Karl Zimmermann Anne Nijman Kyliana van Hoorn
Aljosha started the Behavioural and Social Sciences Research Master in the Domain Deficits, Distress, and Disorders. His research goal is to elucidate neurofunctional causes of diseases. He is interested in statistical procedures, experimental designs, and intervention strategies. Aljosha works since his Bachelor studies on different executive function related topics in this group and is now mainly integrated in the 4C Study.

![]() Karl is finishing his bachelor degree in psychology at the University of Groningen with a study about the relationship between academic success and cognitive control. In the near future, Karl is aiming to complete a research master in clinical neuropsychology. His main interests lie in the interaction of neuroscience and cognitive experience in view on psychopathology, with the ancient philosophical research question of the mind-body problem at its centre.

![]() Anne works as a student assistant in the Cogmax Study, which is a research project on Mild Cognitive Impairment, and takes care for the neuropsychological assessment of these participants. Anne is currently enrolled in the master program Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Groningen. Her fields of interest are medical neuropsychology, rehabilitation and the aging brain. |
Kyliana is currently a bachelor student of psychology at the University of Groningen. After being previously involved in the AcPer-Study she is now working on the 4C study, and on the validation of the Behavioral Dysfunction Syndrome Inventory (BDSI). Her main interest is clinical neuropsychology, more specifically within the fields of Autism Spectrum Disorders and Klinefelter syndrome. After completing her bachelor degree her goal is to pursue a career in research.

Laura O'Sulliva
Laura completed her bachelor degree in 2014 in the University of Limerick with a meta-analysis focusing on cognitive rehabilitation and Mild Cognitive Impairment. She is currently studying a premaster at the University of Groningen, with the aim of starting the M.Sc. Clinical Neuropsychology. Her area of interest centres around the aging brain and clinical neuropsychology, with particular interest in mild cognitive impairment. As a result, she is currently involved in the 4C study. She is also involved in the AcPer study.

Marloes is enrolled in the Master program of the Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Groningen and works as student assistant in the Cogmax Study, which is a project on mild cognitive impairment. Her fields of interests are the aging brain, rehabilitation in brain injury and schizophrenia.

Maike Jansen
Maike studies in the bachelor program of psychology at the University of Groningen. She is involved in the cross-cultural adaptation of the Behavioural Dysexcecutive Syndrome Inventory (BDSI) from the French to the Dutch population which is part of the 4C Study. Next to test development and validation, she is interested in the ecological validity of neuropsychological testing and treatment.

Freddy Nebelung.
Freddy is currently finishing her bachelor degree in psychology at the University of Groningen. After being involved in the AcPer-Study as part of her Honours Program, she is now writing her thesis about the validation of the AcPer Questionnaire - University. Her main interest lies within clinical neuropsychology.
